Lesson 17 What an amazing language English is!

Teaching steps:

Step 1. Leading-in

To show the stu

dents some pictures about national flags of different countries which are all English-speaking countries. Get the students to guess which countries do they belong to. Try to guess the capital of each country if they can. (on ppt)

Step 2. Listening

Ask the students to listen to the tape and try to fill in the blanks in 1.1 of page 58. Tell them not to look at the text of 1.2 and try to catch the numbers they’ll hear from the tape.

Step 3. Reading

Tell the students to read the text of 1.2 and try to finish 1.3 and answer the questions on ppt. They should work individually. Then check their answers in class. Finally, ask the students to just look at the power-point and do “True or False” with their books closed. (on ppt)

Step 4. Language points

Ask the students to read together with the tape and underline the key words and useful phrases at the same time. Explain the difficult grammar points if possible. (on ppt)

Step 5 Discussion

To divide the students into 6 big groups and ask them to discuss the question: How popular is English in China? They have to give at least three facts to support their idea.

Step 6. Language Contrast

To analysis the two common types of exclamation together with the students and

then get them to make some sentences using exclamation. (on ppt)

Step 7. Listening

Before the students listen to 2.1, get them to go through the contents quickly and guess the main idea of the listening. Play the tape twice if necessary.

Step 8. Dialogue

Get the students to finish the dialogue in 2.2. And then ask them to think: what should you say when you didn’t follow others in a conversation? Draw a conclusion on the language difficulty. (on ppt)

Step 9. Homework.

1. To recite all the new words in this lesson.

2. To read the passage of 1.2 out loud after the class.

3. To make five more sentences using exclamation.

Lesson 18 In England they have different words for things.

教学难点:Tag questions in different tense and the sentences with negative words. 课 时:2节课

Teaching steps:

Step 1. Leading-in

To show the students the national flags of English-speaking countries to review people in which countries speak English. Lead out the difference of British English and American English by asking a question: Do people in these countries speak exactly the same English?

Step 2. listening

First: Show students the pictures of 1.2, and ask them to give out two different

ways of saying them in English.

Second: Ask the students tell which way is the American way and which way is the

British way.

Third: Do listening and check if they are right. Finish exercise 1.2

Step 3. Pair-work

Ask student find out other different words with their partners and write that on a piece of paper.

And to see which group can find out the most words

After share the students answer,

Step 4. Reading and complete

Ask the students to read the paragraph of 1.4 and complete the sentences with given words. Then listen to the tape and check the answer. At the same time, make the students pay enough attention on the structure so that they can follow it as an example in the following group work.

Step 5 Group activity

Divide the students into 6 big groups and ask them to make up a short play about people getting confused by different terms in American and British English.

Step 6. Listening

Go over some differences between American and British English before the students listen to 2.1. Play the tape twice if necessary.

Step 7. language contrast

Analyze the usage of tag questions and give them examples.

Step 8. Practice

After learning the grammar of tag questions, finish the exercises of 1.7 and 2.4 Step 9. Homework.

Lesson 19 Most English-speaking students learn French in Canada

课时:2节课

Teaching steps:

Step 1. Leading-in

To show the students some pictures about Canada. Get the students to guess which countries do they belong to. Try to guess the capital of it..

Step 2. Discussion

Ask the students to discuss the questions in 1.1 in pairs.

Step 3. Reading

Tell the students to read the text of 1.2 and try to finish the exercise after that. They should work individually. Finally check their answers in class. After answering the true or false questions on book, have the students answer the additional questions on PPT.

Step 4. Language points

Ask the students to read together with the tape and underline the key words and useful phrases at the same time. Explain the difficult grammar points if possible.

Step 5 Language contrast

Ask the students to read the explanations of each word in 1.3, and try to understand every meaning. Then, give them the examples of every word. The key words are underlined.

Step 6. Practice

Ask the students do the exercise in 1.4 first, that would be a little bit easier for them, and let them do the exercises on PPT. During doing the exercise, let them know the difference between each word exactly.

Step 7. Reading

Let the students read the passages in 2.1 quickly, and fill in the blanks in “Country Fact File”. The information written down must be correct.

Step 8. Reciting

Get the students to read the passages by themselves. After several minutes, ask them to try to recite the passages according to the “Country Fact File” shown on PPT.

Step 9. Homework.

Lesson 20 The official language is English and the capital is London

教学重点:1. 介绍英国的相关信息,包括人文信息和名胜古迹。

教学难点:The knowledge of attributive clauses and how to use different relative pronouns and relative adverbs in attributive clauses.

课时:2节课

Teaching steps:

Step 1: Leading-in

Show the students the map of United Kingdom of Great Britain.

Group-work: three or four people a group to discuss the questions in 1.1, and give a presentation in the end.

Step 2: Listening

Listen to the tape of 1.2 about the basic information of UK, and let the students

check their own answers.

Step 3: Culture learning

Look at the pictures in 2.1, and learn some famous places in the UK. Ask the Ss who have ever been to the UK to describe or introduce these places. Arouse the interest of other Ss.

Step 4: Listening practice

Listen to the tape to number the pictures in 2.1 in the correct order for the first time; and for the second time, fill in the blanks in 2.2. Check the answer by PPT.

Step 5: Reading.

Read the text in 2.2, explain some useful phrases and let Ss underline all the complex sentences in it. Ask the Ss to find out the similarity in using between these sentences by themselves.

Step 6: Language Contrast

Give out the definition of attributive clauses, which give additional information about certain part of the sentences. Pay attention to the usages of relative pronouns and relative adverbs in different situations.

Step 7: Work it out

Ask the Ss to finish 2.4 and 2.5 to make sure that if they have mastered what they have learned in this lesson and try to find out whether there are problems in understanding this grammar point which is a little bit difficult for them.

Step 9: Homework.
